About the Organization
The Ironwood Project is a not-for-profit organization based in Halton Hills, Ontario dedicated to improving the lives of adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The Ironwood project holds weekly meetings for survivors, monthly meeting for partners/spouses/supporters and runs various events throughout the year.
In addition to our current mandate our future goals include more community outreach, disclosure training and prevention training. Our long-term goals include growing the Ironwood Project to be available in more communities.
The Ironwood Project is a registered charity that is led by a volunteer board of directors. This is a Governance Board of Directors, that delegates the operational responsibilities to the Director of Programming / Board Members / Founders and volunteer Facilitators.
About the Role
Ironwood is seeking a dynamic, experienced individual to join the Board of Directors as the Board Chair. The Board Chair will be responsible for ensuring the effective operations of the board, supporting and overseeing board affairs and driving the operational mandates. The Chair will function as a representative of the board as a whole. The role involves being responsible for strategy, growth, fundraising and development while the day to day operation will be overseen by the Director of Programming / Board Members / Founders and volunteer Facilitators.
Role Responsibilities
-Ensure effective governance of the organization
-Work closely with the Director of Operations / President / CEO / Founder
-Create opportunities for every Director to contribute to discussions and influence decisions
-Support the orientation of new Directors
-The Chair will be responsible to promote and maintain a healthy board atmosphere to foster collaboration, communication and a high level of engagement
-Where appropriate attend fund raising, volunteer, awareness and outreach functions
-Work collaboratively with the Board members to develop and execute a road map for future goals / mandates Governance
-Chair all meetings of the Member of the board meetings in compliance with the meeting protocols to ensure integrity of the process
-Set meeting agendas in consultation with Director of Operations / President / CEO / Founder
-In collaboration with Director of Programming / Board of Directors / Founders create committee member roles and responsibilities and participate in committee role selection
-Champion the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as defined by the Board of Directors, and uphold these principles within the governance structure of Ironwood Project
Qualifications & Competencies
-Passion for the mission and values of the Ironwood Project -Experience in board leadership (Board Chair, Vice-Chair) would be an asset
-Understanding of Non- Profit charitable organizations
-Proven leadership skills
-Ability to work collaboratively
-Excellent strategic thinking, panning and communication skills
-Ability to facilitate meetings, generate discussions
-Active relationship-builder who can cultivate and strengthen relationships
Term and Commitment
-Two-year, volunteer board term with opportunity for renewal -Ironwood Board meets a minimum of 4 times per year, at least 2 of those meetings in person at Ironwood
